Cllr Martin Monaghan
Local authority officials are to explore the possibility of installing a footpath along one of Longford's busiest laneways.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Martin Monaghan tabled a request at last week's Municipal District meeting for a footpath to be erected on the Demesne Lane which leads out onto the county town's Battery Road.
“This area of the town has been growing steadily over the last few years, with added housing and a sports facility, namely Longford Tennis Club,” he said.
Councillors Peggy Nolan and Seamus Butler both endorsed those calls, revealing the issue had been one which had been hampered previously by the need to acquire additional land.
Area engineer Eamon Bennett said they were issues which had not gone away, adding the council would look to secure funding under the State's Active Travel Scheme.
