Trial of Longford man faced with assault charges to commence this week

The trial of a man charged with assault, affray and production of a knife is due to begin this week before Judge Francis Comerford at Longford Circuit Court.

Denis Hannifin of Curry, Athlone Road, Longford, was arraigned this afternoon before a jury panel and his three-day trial is currently set to proceed on Thursday.

Mr Hannifin pleaded not guilty to charges of section 3 assault, affray, production of a knife, possession of a knife and intentionally or recklessly causing harm to another.

It is alleged that all of the offences took place on December 7, 2018, at Longford Shopping Centre.

A jury of six men and six women has been sworn in and will hear evidence from the victim of the alleged assault and a number of Garda witnesses.
