'It's been a long road': Carrigy rejoices at new school for Longford's Mean Scoil Mhuire

Mean Scoil Mhuire in Longford town has been given the green light for a new school build

Senator Micheal Carrigy has expressed his delight at the recent announcement over the announcement of a new educational headquarters for Longford's Mean Scoil Mhuire.

 

The Fine Gael Oireachtas representative said he was especially pleased to hear Department of Education chiefs were set to open talks with the school's management for a proposed new build which will provide accommodation for 650 pupils and also provision for pupils will special education needs.

"This has been a long road for all involved," he said.

"I spoke in the Seanad as recently as the 24th January and Department confirmed that the purchase of a site was at an advanced stage so it's good news all round.

"I made a commitment to the student, Board of Management, staff and principal that I work on their behalf to get them a new school and I'm delighted today that all the hard work has paid off."
