The local elections race is hotting up after Newtownforbes man Tony Reilly declared his intention to run in May.

Newtownforbes man Tony Reilly is the latest candidate to declare he will be contesting the local elections for the mid Longford Electoral area in May.

Mr Reilly will be running as an Independent candidate with a main focus on Clondra, Longford town and Newtownforbes.

Items on his agenda will include looking after the elderly in the area; ensuring sufficient mental health services for the people of Longford; employment and legal related issues; and support for small business owners.

“Senior citizens, having cared for us, need the support in their senior years, having worked hard all their lives in the workplace and raising their families,” Mr Reilly explained in a Facebook group, Tony Reilly Election Trail, which he set up to inform the public of his campaign manifesto.

“It's good to talk mental health whether it's depression or anyone who is on the autism spectrum, or indeed any other form need not be embarrassed to talk or to seek help,” he said of his mental health agenda.

“I pledge to try and set groups up in the area where people can come to talk about any issues regarding mental health In rural areas some may find it difficult to travel to the large towns to seek help. I believe small groups throughout the electoral area is the way forward.”
