Gardaí are investigating the circumstances behind a bizarre shoplifting incident in Longford which saw an estimated €700 worth of honey jars being taken from a local grocery store.
A hunt is on for a shoplifting gang who boldly walked into a Longford town based supermarket and stole several hundred euros worth of honey.
An estimated €700 worth of items were taken by a number of individuals from Longford's SuperValu store at town's Hazelwood Shopping Centre last Friday (March 1), gardaí have confirmed.
The incident, which occurred between 4pm and 4:30pm, saw approximately 23 jars valued at €30 each being taken as a result of the raid.
CCTV footage is currently being analysed by detectives in the hope of tracking down those involved.
Separately, gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry into a break in at a business premises in Ballymahon over the weekend.
Around €2,000 worth of footwear was reported stolen from a firm located on the Mostrim Road between 11pm and 1pm on March 2 and March 3.
It's believed access to the property was gained via a rear window.
Gardaí have, however, revealed most, if not all, the items taken in the incident were recovered sometime afterwards.
