Midlands Northwest MEP Matt Carthy will host a “Stop the Vultures! Stop the Evictions!” event in the Percy French Hotel, Strokestown this Thursday February 21st at 7.30pm.

Roscommon native, Matt Carthy, has been central to the campaign against the EU directive on non-performing loans, whilst also remaining a vocal opponent of the recent evictions in the Strokestown area.

Carthy was scathing of the recent evictions, describing the behaviour of the private security personnel as “thuggish” when speaking at the Strokestown community rally before Christmas.

“We didn’t stand for it then, we don’t stand for it now and we won’t stand for it in the future,” Carthy said ahead of Thursday’s event.

“We must stop the Vultures. It is a blight in our communities across this country. I have been working in the EU to demand the Commission withdraw its proposal on non performing loans, which aims to give free rein to the vultures and amounts to a second bailout for the banks. We have to campaign at the local level too, to demand the Irish government opposes this dangerous Directive in the Council.”

Also in attendance on Thursday evening in Strokestown, will be Sinn Fein TD Pearse Doherty.
