Snow Longford

There were plenty of standout moments during last week’s adverse weather conditions, writes Jessica Thompson, but what stood out in peoples’ minds the most was the fantastic community spirit that instantly came alive right across the entire county.

Farmers dug paths to help snowed-in neighbours and free emergency vehicles; friends and neighbours banded together to ensure a wedding went ahead in Longford town; and council trucks got to work clearing roads of massive snow drifts.

People from across the county spent their time building igloos and snowmen, taking spectacular photos and making hilarious videos in the snow.

Meanwhile, on a sad note, the community of Abbeylara are mourning the passing of 83-year-old Mary Ann McNerney, whose home tragically caught fire on Saturday evening last.
