Model Alannah Beirne has just completed her ninth week of RTE’s Dancing with the Stars and last Sunday the audience saw an emotional dance off between her and Marty Morrissey.
The young woman is no stranger to Longford either - her father Gerry hails from Ardagh, and her grandmother Bridie still resides in the south Longford village.
Alannah, who grew up in Co Kildare, is having a whale of a time on Dancing with the Stars but a gruelling week of perfecting those dance moves precedes each show.
“This week we will have the team dance; we have been split into two teams and there are two couples on my team,” she adds, before pointing to the fact that this Sunday’s winning team will collect additional individual scores when the results come in.
“I have just finished week nine and the show is 12 weeks altogether, so it’s been great so far with lots more to come.
“I honestly can’t believe how far I’ve come and really that is down to the votes that I’m getting from the public.”
She went on to say that her dad - who is her biggest fan - texts his entire phonebook every Sunday in an effort to drum up some much needed voting power for Alannah.
“The votes really matter; last Sunday I was in the dance-off with Marty and that was really difficult; it was emotional to see Marty going as well,” she continues.
“The voting really is what counts when it comes down to it.”
Meanwhile, Alannah has been visiting Longford and Ardagh since she was a child and last year she made a guest appearance at Aine’s Boutique in Longford town.
She mingled with local fashionistas and chatted to school children who dropped into the store just to meet her!
It was an experience that she really enjoyed.
“I take trips to Ardagh to visit my granny and all my cousins regularly - James Beirne was my grandad and he died two years ago.
“We all miss him a lot.”
She added; “My dad is a really proud Longford man and so we go down there often”.
Alannah says she has received great support from the Longford contingent, so far, on Dancing with the Stars.
“I have great support in Longford and I know that will continue,” she adds.
“I’m having a great time and I really appreciate all the support that I am getting.”
