New bridge to link The Mall and Longford County Council offices

Bridge

The new bridge is currently being fabricated in Co Mayo and will arrive in Longford in the next couple of weeks.

The installation of a new bridge connecting the Albert Reynolds Peace Park to Longford town at Longford Co Council headquarters looks likely in the coming weeks.

Last week’s meeting of Longford Municipal District heard the bridge is currently being fabricated in Co Mayo and will be subsequently transported to Longford upon completion.

“The site at the rear of the council offices is now almost fully ready for the installation and a crane will be required to lift the large span bridge into place,” said Head of Finance, John McKeon.

Meanwhile, the crossing will connect Great Water Street and Longford town to the Park, directly, for the very first time.

The bridge as of yet, remains unnamed and a funding allocation of €190,000 was made available to Longford Co Council for its development.

“The bridge will be an added advantage to our beautiful town walks and it is something that is badly needed,” Cllr Peggy Nolan (FG) concluded.
