New bus stops proposed for Longford town

A proposal for new bus stops in and around Longford town has been sent forward by Bus Eireann, a meeting of Longford Municipal District heard this week.

County engineer, Eamonn Bennett said that he had received correspondence from the company in recent times suggesting that Longford Co Council implement the proposals as set out.

Mr Bennett said that additional bus parking had been proposed on the Drumlish Road outside Longford town close to Clonbalt Woods as well as outside St Christopher’s Services along the Battery Road.

The meeting also heard that there was a plan in place to move the bus stop on main street and create a hop on, hop off point, thus freeing up additional car parking space in the area.

“This will free up parking spaces that can be introduced through our bye-laws down the line and with members approval,” he added, before pointing out that such matters would be dealt with, in time, through the local authority's bye laws.
