Ongoing debate surrounding the upcoming referendum on the eighth amendment is not a subject to be kicked from pillar to post, according to Leader columnist Mattie Fox
If TDs are being allowed vote according to their conscience in the upcoming eighth amendment referendum, why then do we need to know their private decisions?
What’s the big fuss emanating from media outlets countrywide, starting with RTÉ on the evening news as someone breathlessly explains the exact state of play being learned from the debate within the Dáil.
Is it the case that in fact, the media feel they must also tell us how to vote?
Would it not be very fitting to allow such a sensitive issue to be left to each individual to decide for themselves with the pros and cons from those who know, ie professionals on both sides.
Surely it is not a subject to be canvassed and kicked from pillar to post from now until the referendum.
