An exciting new chapter for Edgeworthstown took a giant leap closer to becoming reality this evening after it was indicated that €1.25 million will be approved for the new library in the town under the Library Capital Programme 2016-2021.
“This is fantastic news and I am delighted to have been in a position to push very hard for this funding since being elected to the Dáil for the constituency,” declared a delighted Longford/Westmeath Independent Alliance TD, Deputy Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran.
Longford County Council has received approval in principle from the Department of Housing and Local Government to proceed to the next stage in the development of the new library in Edgeworthstown.
The Department has also confirmed an indicative allocation of €1.25m towards the project.
“A new community library has been sought in Edgeworthstown for a good number of years and, in particular, the vibrant Edgeworthstown Development Association worked closely alongside Longford County Council to develop the project and this must be acknowledged also,” said Deputy Moran.
