The Midlands Simon Community launched its Sleep Out for Simon event on Thursday 23 February last, and hopes to receive a lot of support for this year’s event.
The Sleep Out for Simon event will take place on Good Friday night, April 14 at Connolly Barracks, Longford and all funds raised will go to the Simon Community.
“This is the second annual Sleep Out for Simon. We ran it last year and it was a huge success. Hundreds of people turned up. It was probably one of the biggest fundraising events in Longford last year,” said Community Fundraising Coordinator for the Midlands Simon Community Noel Greene.
“We’ll have some covered accommodation out the back and we’ll also be providing refreshments on the night,” he said, adding that the event is supported and sponsored by Shannonside FM.
Registration for the event itself will begin at 9pm, with the Welcome Address at 10.30. There will then be music from 11.30pm until 1am and anyone who can play an instrument is welcome to bring it along and play on the night.
“We’re encouraging people to bring a sleeping bag and maybe a bit of cardboard. Wear some warm clothes and if you want to bring hot water bottles, we’ll have hot water on site for you,” said Mr Greene.
“This event gives people a chance to experience for one night what homeless people experience every night,” he concluded.
To gain entry to the barracks on the night, you must have a sponsorship card and whatever sponsorship you collect between now and then.
