Celebrating the work of Longford volunteers

Celebrating the work of Longford volunteers

Longford Volunteer Centre, a project of Longford Community Resources CLG (LCRL)  celebrated International Volunteer Day with over 40 volunteers in the EDI Centre on December 5 last.

December 5 is the internationally designated day in the year when volunteerism in all its facets is celebrated and special tribute is paid to the contribution volunteers make.

An outstanding 8,426 volunteer hours have been donated so far this year in Longford.

This incredible contribution has had the following effects: It has enabled people who are marginalised to participate in everyday activities, to feel less isolated and has enabled people to gain and develop skills which have allowed them access employment.

Of the organisations that attended  gave a short presentation on their work and made a pitch to recruit more volunteers, after which they were available to speak to potential volunteers.

Thanks to all those who helped out with organising the event. Particular thanks to all those who came along to the celebration. Longford Volunteer Centre look forward to your continued commitment in 2017.
