Longford Chamber of Commerce and local Gardaí have come together to relaunch the Business Watch initiative in Longford town. The scheme works on similar principles to the Neighbourhood Watch initiative but is primarily focused on preventing shoplifting and robberies.
The scheme was re-launched in Longford Shopping Centre recently and Chamber President, Derek Scanlon, welcomed a much more pro-active and visible policing presence in the town.
He also encouraged businesses to work with the local community policing team, who will visit premises and advise on improving security.
To date a large number of local businesses are signed up to the Business Watch initiative but he encouraged all local businesses to contact the Chamber and get involved.
Speaking at the launch, he said: “Prevention is the best approach and as the means of countering crime has become increasingly sophisticated there is an even greater need to share intelligence and information. That is the real strength of the Business Watch scheme.”
If you wish to join the Business Watch scheme, then contact the Chamber through Lisa Brady at 087 7786834.
