By Aisling Kiernan

Competition is heating up on the final day of the National Ploughing championships in Tullamore for the Longford contingent.

Mattie Connell and Brian Casey are currently battling it out in their loy classes.

Meanwhile Eamon Egan is in strong contention to emerge victorious in the special horse class and Mel McKenna and john King are holding their own in the tractor ploughing.

Mary Connell is also doing well  in the ladies loy class.

Thousands of people have arrived at the championships over the last couple of hours - many of them taking advantage of the glorious weather on offer in Tullamore today.

There is something for everyone with trade stands, cookery demonstrations, cattle, sheep and state of the art machinery on display.

Only a few hours left now untill NPC 2016 draws to a close and organisers are confident that this will be one of the best on record.
