Longford District Court: Man with addiction issues fined €400

A man who appeared at last week’s sitting of Longford District Court charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act was convicted and fined €400.

Stephen Croghan, 51 Clonguish Court, Newtownforbes, Co Longford appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes charged with being in possession of cannabis herb and unlawful possession of drugs at Clonguish Court on June 7, 2014.

Outlining the evidence to the court, Superintendent Jim Delaney said that on the date in question, gardaí discovered €500 worth of cannabis herb in the defendant’s possession.

In mitigation, Mr Croghan’s solicitor John Quinn said that his client had since attended an addiction counsellor and was weaning himself off drugs altogether.

“His father is unwell at the moment and Stephen is looking after him,” Mr Quinn concluded.

Following his deliberations on the matter, Judge Hughes convicted the defendant and fined him €400 in respect of the matter.
