Longford District Court: Defendant had cannabis herb on him

A man who appeared at last week’s sitting of Longford District Court charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act was convicted and fined €400. 

Michael Stokes, 7 Wolfe Tone Court, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes charged with two counts of having cannabis herb in his possession at 12 Kilbride Park, Edgeworthstown on December 10, 2015. 

After the evidence in the case was outlined to the court, the defendant’s solicitor Bríd Mimnagh said her client was pleading guilty to the charges before Judge Hughes. 

“He has three children,” she added, “and is separated from his partner.” 

The court was told, that despite the separation, both parties had a good relationship.

Following his deliberations on the matter, Judge Hughes convicted the defendant and fined him €200 in respect of each charge before the court.
