Down Memory Lane 1996: Longford reaches All Ireland final

Following their victory over Sligo last Saturday, Longford ladies Junior GAA football team will run out in Croke Park on September 29 to represent the county in the All Ireland final against Clare.

However, one reader has expressed dismay at the fact that this important match was not played at Pearse Park and in a letter to the editor, suspects  there is sexism at work. “If the men's team had half the courage and commitment of this ladies' team they would have seen Croke Park years ago”, the Granard-based writer stated.
