Future Longford and Leitrim Roses meet 2016 Rose of Tralee

Future Longford and Leitrim Roses meet 2016 Rose of Tralee

Two local cousins acted as a lucky charm for one Rose of Tralee contestant, after a meeting during the 'Rose signings' in Tralee.

Cousins Sarah Farrell (11), Brickeens, Longford and Tara Davis (8), Gortletteragh met Chicago Rose Maggie McEldowney when they were on holidays in Tralee.

Sarah's mother, Edel, explained; “We were down in Tralee for the week. We went down to stay in Banagh beach, and it just happened to be the week of the festival!

“The girls loved it. The Roses signed autographs and wrote little notes.”

Maggie spoke with the girls and was extremely friendly, according to Edel. She also gave them each a signed autograph and keepsake badge before taking a photograph with them.

The duo also got the chance to meet Longford Rose Caroline Doyle and Leitrim Rose Annmarie Keegan.

It was Maggie, however, who was crowned 2016 Rose of Tralee in the Dome on Tuesday, August 23, much to the girls' delight.

When asked if the families were looking at two future Roses, Edel laughed; “I'd say so!”
