Longford District Court: Fined for stealing runners and leggings

A woman who appeared at a recent district court sitting in Longford charged under the Theft & Fraud Offences Act was fined €100 following her conviction.

Marie McDonagh (21), 227 Green Park Meadows, Mullingar, Co Westmeath appeared before Judge Seamus Hughes charged with stealing three pairs of runners and a pair of leggings - value €37 - from Penneys Longford on July 13 last.

Inspector Padraig Jones said the case centred around the theft of a number of items from the department store.

“All the goods in this case were recovered and in a salable condition,” the Inspector added.

In mitigation, the defendant’s solicitor Frank Gearty said his client was a young woman who had no previous convictions in relation to theft.

“She has a five-month-old child and pleaded guilty to this offence before the court at the earliest stage.”

Following his deliberations on the matter, Judge Hughes convicted the defendant and fined her €100 in respect of the matter.
