Two people are recuperating this week following a serious assault in Longford town over the weekend.
A man and a woman were injured during the incident which occurred in the Camlin Mews area of town on Saturday night.
The incident, however, was not reported to gardai until around 24 hours later.
The scene of the incident was subsequently preserved for a technical examination on Monday.
Both victims were treated for what have been described as non-life threatening injuries and are expected to make a full recovery.
No arrests have yet been made butGardai have confirmed an investigation into the incident is underway.
The Leader also understands detectives are pursuing a definite line of inquiry and as such no witnesses are being sought at this stage.
