Recalling the time the US Vice Presidential candidate came "home" to Killashee 

Killashee hit the national headlines this week after it emerged that Tim Kaine, who has been selected by Hillary Clinton as her running mate in the forthcoming election, has strong connections to the parish.  

Kaine, who visited Longford in 2006, is a descendant of the Farrells from Killashee.  

Kaine's great grandfather was PJ Farrell who was born in Derryadd and emigrated to the US at  4 years old.

Those who met him in 2006 recall how proud Kaine was of his Longford roots and how delighted he was to visit the site of his ancestral home in Derryadd.

In this week’s Leader, we recall his 2006 visit which was covered in the paper at the time and we talk to the man who gave the Kaines tea and appletart during their visit to the parish!
