Next year is the Jubilee Year of the national Community Games and Longford Community Games is working on producing a special book to mark this occasion.
This special book will celebrate Community Games in the county and the special memories created at Community Games events throughout the decades.
Community Games has been part of Longford life since 1973 and in that time generations of Longford people have participated in some way in the organisation’s activities.
“We know that many Longford people have great memories from their days in Community Games,” Joe Fox, Chairman of Longford Community Games and Vice-President of the National Community Games, told the Leader.
“We also know that many Longford people have medals, trophies, photos or other Community Games paraphernalia stashed away over the years and we are asking them to dig out their memorabilia so that it can be included in our forthcoming book.”
He added that that association is also seeking memorabilia from areas where clubs have gone dormant.
“We don’t want to exclude anyone,” Joe added. Longford Community Games are also hoping that digging out those old trophies and medals might inspire a new generation to get involved in an organisation that has brought joy to many young people in the county over the years.
