Down Memory Lane: Thrilling rescue (June 1976)

A thrilling rescue from drowning was witnessed in Tarmon on Wednesday evening last. The heroine was 18 year old Miss Marie Doyle of Ballymahon St, Longford who jumped fully clothed into the Shannon to save a 20 year old companion who got into difficulties in the water.

Her companion was only a short time in the water when she got into difficulties and shouted for help. Without a moment's hesitation Miss Doyle jumped into the water and swam over to the other girl who had gone down for the second time.
