Ballyleague leads way with new facility

Ballyleague leads way with new facility
By

Current and future generations of pupils from Ballyleague national School are set to enjoy the benefits of being a part of one of the first local primary education centres in the midlands, to install a state of the art astro turf pitch.

The new artificial pitch was commissioned by the board of management as part of its programme for the development of appropriate play and sporting facilities for the school, while also supporting Irish business and the local economy in the process.

Castlecoote based company “Class Grass” installed the astro turf pitch which has been put into action for the first time as recently as April of this year. “Class Grass” is one of Ireland’s leading artificial grass suppliers and this new facility offers the young pupils of the attractive Shannonside village of Ballyleague, a top quality synthetic imitation turf surface to play their games on.

School principal Annette Regan said, "For some time our school and its board of management has been considering the introduction of a new all-weather facility offering our boys and girls the opportunity to get out and exercise - regardless of what time of the year it is."

Ms Regan added, “Recreational activity is a very important part of the school curriculum here at Scoil Náisiúnta Mhuire, and like other rural schools, we have been hampered in the past because our playing pitch has not always been available, especially during the winter months, due to heavy rain-fall.

“Thankfully, the board of management has been very pro-active in working towards a solution, and this new astro turf pitch will address this and allow children go out and play and exercise and develop their emerging soccer skills all year round, for many years to come!”

Ballyleague National School wishes to thank Lough Ree Park Residents’ Association for their co-operation and support while construction was underway, the design team, the board of management, the parents and pupils and all who helped to make this exciting project a fantastic success.

Parents are very welcome to visit the school by appointment, to view the astro turf pitch and all its facilities.
