Minister for Transport Shane Ross will visit Longford and Westmeath at the weekend where he will meet a number of local groups.
He will be in Ballymahon on Saturday at 4pm in Cooney’s Hotel for a presentation on the Great Western Greenway project where he will meet members of the local Tidy Towns organisation and members of the Royal Canal Greenway committee.
At over 40km, the the Great Western Greenway is the longest off-road walking and cycling trail in Ireland and eventually, it is hoped to establish an off road route, linking Dublin to Achill Island.
“We have high hopes of obtaining further funding for this project,” Deputy Kevin “Boxer” Moran explained. “I have invited the Minister to Longford so that he can get an understanding of the significance of this plan.”
