More than 1,400 Longford pupils in classes of thirty or more

1,438 primary school pupils in Longford are being taught in classes of thirty or more, according to figures released recently by the Department of Education and Skills. 

This amounts to 27.3% of pupils being taught in large classes in the county.

Westmeath recorded 2,383 pupils being taught among larger class groups, which equates to 21.6% of the county’s primary school pupils.

Meanwhile, Roscommon and Leitrim had 1,379 or 19% and 543 or 14.9% of pupils in classes of thirty or more, respectively.
