Singers, dancers, actors, comedians, jugglers, acrobats and more are being sought for a talent competition on May 27 in Ballyleague Hall, in aid of Ballagh NS.
According to Amanda Cox, a member of the Parents’ Association, the group are always looking for new ways to fundraise. The proceeds from this event, they hope, will be used in the day-to-day running of the school, as well as going towards the development of an astroturf pitch/sports facility.
“It’s really to have a fund there that the school can dip into for different things,” Amanda explained.
“We’re appealing to anybody of any age and we’d love to see a variety of acts,” Amanda continued. “I really think there’s loads of talent out there, and it’s an opportunity for them to earn a bit of money for their own funds.”
There are two prizes on offer on the night - the voters’ prize of €500 and the judges’ prize of €200, and Amanda revealed that voting will begin even before the acts take to the stage on the night.
“We’ve set 12 - 14 acts as a limit for the night. If we have a large number of entries, we have the week of May 2 set aside for preliminary rounds and the judges will decide who is going forward.
“On the launch night, May 9, the different acts who have qualified for the final will get cards to collect votes and when they turn up for the sound check, they can turn those in.”
The admission fee (€10 per adult, €5 for a child/student/OAP and €25 for a family of two adults and more than one child) will also cover two votes on the night, and each audience member will have the opportunity to buy extra votes. As the votes are being counted, the pupils of Ballagh NS will keep the audience entertained.
The organising committee are also appealing to local businesses, who may be interested in sponsoring an act or a prize for the raffle, to get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling Ballagh NS on 09066 25884.
Each act will have four minutes to perform and group acts must be made up of ten people or less. Entry costs €25 and application forms, which are available from the above email address, must be submitted before 3pm on Thursday, April 21.
