Garda probe into tool theft

Gardaí are appealing for the public's help after thieves brazenly stole several thousand euros' worth of tools from a van in Ballymahon last week, writes Liam Cosgrove.

A Bosch 18 volt cordless drill, a Bosch 18 volt skilled saw, Kango drill, Bosch Kango drill, 36 volt cordless drill, a Bosch angle grinder and four chargers were all taken.

Gardaí believe the culprits made off with the items sometime between 11am and 11:30am after targeting the white Renault van which was parked outside a garage on Main Street.

Detectives are hoping that passing motorists may have witnessed the robbery which occurred in broad daylight along one of the county's busiest roads.

They are also especially anxious to speak to the driver of a silver coloured Toyota Avensis hatchback which was seen in the vicinity of the area at around the time of the incident.

Equally, anyone who may have any information or who may have been offered any of the above mentioned items for sale are asked to contact Ballymahon Garda Station (090) 6432303 or Longford Garda Station (043) 3350570.
