A garage owner has told of how a recovery truck was stolen from his premises in Longford town last Friday evening.
Joe Fallon, who operates a car sales and service business on the Athlone Road, said he has been able to determine exactly when the incident occurred.
“It was stolen on Friday night at 9.26pm – I have it on CCTV,” he explained. “It's a white Iveco tilt-and-slide recovery lorry. The registration is 97 L 2434.”
“A car pulled up at Johnston's wall and one person got out and jumped across it. It took them seven minutes to steal the truck.
“The car waited across the road in Shepherd's yard. It was gold or silver in colour and looked like it could have been a Hyundai Accent.
“When they took it, they headed towards the town.”
Mr Fallon then outlined how he discovered the vehicle had been taken: “I realised it was missing when I went in on Saturday morning. I was only after spending €4,000 doing it up for the DOE test; I've had it ever since I started the business seven years ago.”
Mr Fallon also revealed that the cost of replacing the vehicle could be in the region of €15,000 and that its absence is affecting his business.
“At the moment I'll have to pass on recovery jobs to other people,” he said.
Anyone who may have any information relating to this incident is asked to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 3350570 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111.
