Over 15% of commercial properties in Longford were lying empty last December, a report by GeoDirectory has found.
This percentage ranks just slightly higher than the national average vacancy percentage of 14.6%.
Of the towns surveyed within Longford, report findings show Edgeworthstown had the highest number of empty business units while Longford Town had the fewest.
The results, which were published in the GeoDirectory Commercial Buildings report, concentrated solely on the final quarter of 2025.

According to the report, Longford’s commercial vacancy rate of 15.2% for December 2025 represents a 0.3 percentage point increase in the commercial vacancy rate compared to the year previous.
While any increase in vacancy units is not good news, it appears to be reflective of a national issue with commercial vacancy rates across Ireland having increased to 14.6% in the final four months of 2025.
This means that as of December 2025, there were 30,687 vacant commercial units across Ireland.
Despite having a higher than average vacancy rate, Longford does not feature in the top 3 counties in terms of empty business units.
Sligo ranked as the county with the highest number of vacant commercial premises, followed closely by Donegal and Galway.
