Three entrances into a Longford town residential areas have been closed as gardaí carry out their investigations
A major investigation is underway in Longford town after two men were seriously injured following an alleged assault.
There was a heightened Garda presence around the town on Monday night and into the early hours of Tuesday morning as local gardaí backed up by the Armed Support Unit (ASU) were alerted to the attack.
A section of a residential area was cordoned off by investigating gardaí and the three routes leading into the area were also closed off to traffic.

A garda spokesperson confirmed they were 'investigating an alleged incident of assault that occurred in the Longford town area on Monday evening, February 9 at approximately 9pm'.
They said 'two males received serious injuries' and it is understood both were hospitalised for treatment.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
They said, "Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam and were travelling in the area of Teffia Park, Longford town, at the time are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.”
