It was a somewhat colourful 12 months for Longford.
Throughout 2025, Longford had a total of 18 severe weather warnings, beginning with Storm Eowyn, which is still regarded as the most powerful storm to have hit the country since Hurricane Debbie back in 1961.
Longford County Council also issued 495 road alerts and floods/hazards alerts which concerned road closures, accidents, and local hazards such as fallen trees.
OPW river sensors across Longford, which track river levels in real time, resulted in alerts being sent out on a total of 10 occasions when river heights rose to what is known as “warning thresholds.”
When it came to property developments and new construction projects in Longford, there were a total of 52 alerts for new and decided weekly planning updates from Longford County Council.
Separately there were 132 commencement alerts, which informed alert recipients of new building developments and construction projects around the county.
There were 480 property sale updates and 344 'other Longford alerts' such as community, water issues, and related matters.
