Artwork from 12 secondary school students across the county features in the Longford Libraries 2026 calendar.
The calendar celebrates the winners of the Longford Libraries Art Competition, which invited young people to interpret the theme 'Reading Takes You Places'.

The launch event took place recently at Longford Library, bringing together students, families, schools and Creative Ireland representatives.

All six libraries across the county will stock the calendar, which is available free to the public thanks to €1,500 funding from Creative Ireland.

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Garry Murtagh said, "This calendar is a window into the imagination of Longford's young people. These students have shown us that creativity is well and truly alive, and I'm immensely proud that our libraries are the bridge connecting artistic expression with our communities."

Chief Executive of Longford County Council, Paddy Mahon said, "Longford Libraries have created something genuinely valuable– a project that celebrates student achievement whilst reinforcing the library as a vital community hub. I commend our library staff for their vision, and we extend our gratitude to Creative Ireland for backing it so wholeheartedly."

The staff at Longford Libraries deserve particular recognition for their dedication to this initiative, which strengthens the connection between libraries and secondary school students whilst spotlighting artistic talent in the county.

The competition attracted entries from schools throughout Longford, with organisers hoping to establish it as an annual fixture in the cultural calendar.

Competition winners: Ava Percival, Templemichael College; Mary-Jane Dennis, Ardscoil Phádraig, Granard; Donatas Auzelis, Templemichael College; Dominik Jaszuzak, Templemichael College; Wiktoria Figlak, Templemichael College; Killian Owens, Lanesboro Community College; Tabita Kukier Hadrys, Templemichael College; Ava Lilly Moloney, Ballymahon Vocational School; Leahnada Dempsey, Templemichael College; Seth Plant, Ballymahon Vocational School; Adam Werner, Templemichael College, and Diana Kokarieva, Templemichael College.
