The N55 between Ballymahon and Edgeworthstown will remain closed until next Wednesday, December 3, to allow for essential works being carried out at Fowlard's Bridge.
While the road will re-open after December 3, motorists should still expect lane closures as Uisce Éireann will be continuing their watermain upgrades and roadworks near Ballymahon.
As a result, traffic management measures will remain in place there over the coming weeks.
According to Longford County Council, watermain installation works will be taking place after Christmas on the section of road from Gerety Farm Machinery to Carrickedmond Church. A switch to the new water supply will then take place in February / March.
Following this, works will move to the Newcastle Road as the installation of a new main gets underway.
