Longford ranks as the most expensive county for car insurance, with it costing drivers €1,042
Car insurance prices can vary significantly depending on where you live. Insurers use your Eircode as a key factor, with different regions across Ireland facing higher or lower premiums based on local risk levels and claim histories. However, Chill Insurance has collected data from ever county, learning that Longford costing drivers €1,042, while Kilkenny's average price is €629 (as of March 2025). Across Ireland’s four provinces, Connacht offers the lowest average car insurance premium at €689. Ulster tops the list as the most expensive at €796, followed by Leinster at €764. Munster sits in between with an average premium of €717.

According to the research, costs usually drop by 27% after a driver has had their licence for three years. Among the most popular car models in Ireland are the KIA Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, and Skoda Octavia which are also the most affordable to insure on average.
