Longford will be represented at Bord Bia Bloom this year.

Bord Bia Bloom is Ireland's largest and most spectacular gardening event, taking place during the June bank holiday weekend in Phoenix Park. A record number of almost 120,000 people attended Bord Bia's Bloom festival last year.

Inspired by the rich heritage of the county, Déirdre Orme has designed a postcard garden inspired by the natural beauty of the regions peatlands.

"The garden is named Grian Árd, and is inspired by our history along the ancient path of An Slighe Assail. The planting consists of native flora and it is complemented by bog oak and willow woven panels," Deirdre explained.

"We've a busy few weeks ahead of us at Granard Motte Community Enterprise. Anyone interested in gardening or in lending a hand with our postcard garden is most welcome to join us," Déirdre added.
