Funding of €24,255 allocated to help cover costs of Longford shows

Funding of over €24,000 has been set aside for Longford's three countywide shows

Funding to help show committees cover their costs was announced last Friday, March 22 by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD.

Some 122 shows nationwide are to benefit from fresh round of funding, including three Longford shows to the tune of €24,255;

* Ballinalee Connemara Pony Show (Sunday, June 9) - €6,700

* Granard Agricultural Show Society (Saturday & Sunday, July 20 & 21) - €8,350

* Longford Agricultural Show (Sunday, July 7) - €9,205

Minister Humphreys made the announcement as she launched the 2024 Yearbook for Irish Shows Association (ISA).

The Minister said, “Our Agricultural Shows play a vital role in community life and raise awareness of the important role agriculture plays in our society.

“These shows are the threads that build bridges between our towns and villages, and the hinterlands that support them.

“They act as a platform for local producers to showcase their products and have become a key date in the calendar for the farming community.

“Our shows sum up all that is good about country life and I’m delighted to support them, once again, through this substantial investment.”
