Sean Mimnagh, Marett Smith and Kevin Hussey
As local election fever cranks up a few notches, Fianna Fáil has added three new faces across the three local electoral areas to battle it out for a seat on Longford County Council.
Former Longford footballer and well known businessman, Sean Mimnagh, has been added to the team to run in the Ballymahon Municipal District area.
He will join existing councillors, Pat O’Toole and Mick Cahill on the FF ticket as they look to secure a third seat.
Mr Mimnagh has a long involvement with local groups and organisations such as Rathcline GAA and Lanesboro Triathlon Club.
He also served as a local retained firefighter and for twenty years he ran the popular Shannon Grill take-away and presently runs a successful property maintenance business.
In the Granard LEA, Fianna Fáil has added former school principal, Marett Smith to their election team and she joins David Cassidy and Susan Murphy on the party ticket.
The former teacher will be seeking to retain the party’s seat currently held by Cllr PJ Reilly, who is retiring from local politics.
Well known in the local community, Ms Smith was until recently principal of Granard primary school and has a long involvement with many local organisations.
Originally from Aughnacliffe, she has lived in Ballinacross for many years and is well known across North Longford for a lifetime’s involvement in education, sport and community organisations.
The third candidate in Longford Municipal District is businessman Kevin Hussey. He runs the family dry-cleaning business on Dublin Street and is well known for his voluntary and community work over many years in the town.
Currently recovering from cancer and with a young family, he sees first hand the many challenges facing families in Longford town.
Mr Hussey will join sitting FF councillors, Seamus Butler, Martin Monaghan and Uruemu Adejinmi on the party’s Longford MD ticket.
