Cavan and Longford fondly remembers great craftsman and respected school bus driver

Oliver (Ollie) Denneny Kilcogy Lower, Co Cavan and late of Moynagh Finea, died peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2023 surrounded by his loving family and with the excellent care of the nursing staff at the Lisdarn Unit Cavan.

Predeceased by his wife Bridie, parents Annie and Jimmie, sister Anna Bríd (Reilly), brothers Sean and Seamus.

Sadly missed by his loving children Olive (Tierney), Yvonne (Wauchope), Dermot, Annmarie (O’Shannon), brothers Terry, Tossie and Henny, sisters Mary (Neilon) and Bernie (O’Sullivan), grandchildren, sons-in-law, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends to whom we extend our deepest sympathy.

For many years Ollie was employed on the local FAS schemes where he was highly respected and being a great craftsman some of his handywork is to be seen in his local Kilcogy village and around the area.

A quiet and hardworking man, Ollie was a very obliging neighbour and his death will be severely felt in the Mullahoran area.

He enjoyed chatting in the local pubs and was also a keen huntsman with the Mullahoran/ Mullinalaghta Gun club.

As a school bus driver, he earned the respect not alone of his ‘passengers’ but of their parents and school management as well, always ready to offer a helping hand on and off the bus.

His remains reposed at Reilly’s Funeral Home, Kilcogy on Tuesday, January 2 where very large numbers came to pay their respects a tribute to the esteem in which Oliver was held.

The funeral mass on Wednesday, January 3 was celebrated by Fr PJ assisted by Fr Frank Cadam and burial followed to the local cemetery. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
