It's been an institution for Longford food lovers for over 33 years and this year The Rising Sun are marking the Year of the Dragon with a feast for their loyal customers.
First opening their doors in 1989 The Rising Sun is Longford's longest established Chinese restaurant. In those decades of serving great food they have built a reputation for quality and excellence.
Their extensive menu has lots to choose from with mouth watering chefs specials, regular favourites and, for the adventurous, many exciting dishes.
The comfort provided by the restaurant is ideal for family gathering or a romantic evening for two.
To mark 2024 as The Year of Dragon based on the Chinese zodiac The Rising Sun will host a wonderful evening of entertainment on Monday, January 29, with festivities commencing at 7.30 pm.
The Year of the Dragon is the fifth in the 12-year cycle of the Chinese zodiac signs. Proprietor of The Rising Sun, Kwok-on-Lee, is looking forward to hosting the annual event: “I want to wish all our customers a happy Chinese New Year, and wish them the best of health in the coming year.”
Mr Lee has been hosting the annual gathering for many years. It is tremendously popular among locals and Mr Lee says this one is a bit special: “The event was running in excess of over 10 years however we did not celebrate in the restaurant in the past few years because of the covid pandemic. We plan to make this year a year to remember.”
Mr Lee loves hosting the feast: “Being of Hong Kong origin, the Chinese New Year is a very important celebration in my culture. It symbolises the welcoming of the new and good. It allows for the opportunity to celebrate Chinese culture with my patrons, so they can experience the Chinese traditions which are very important to myself, my family and the Chinese community in Longford.
“My customers thoroughly enjoy the celebrations and embrace the festivities. My restaurant is always open to new customers and welcomes those to join in the celebrations. We welcome customers to our restaurant at any point throughout the year,” he said.
Mr Lee is looking forward to the event: “The celebrations are always such a joyous time, every year brings its own special memories with lots of laughter.
"To witness my patrons eating, drinking and enjoying the great entertainment is always so memorable year on year."
The entertainment on the night is by Padraig Farrell, and special guests. A limited number of tickets for this unique event are available in the Rising Sun for €40.
