Judge warns that Longford man will not be allowed to drag matters on endlessly

A defendant was told he was not allowed to drag matters on endlessly over a court poor box contribution.

Bernardo Carlos Da Silva, 33 Gleann Riada, Strokestown Road, Longford previously pleaded guilty at Longford District Court following an incident at Townspark, Market Square, Longford on April 29, 2023.

He had been found in possession of a two inch blade.

In September he was given an opportunity to make a contribution of €300 to the court poor box, to avoid a criminal conviction.

Defence solicitor Bríd Mimnagh said the defendant had contacted her office the previous day. He had not come up with the money yet and is the main breadwinner for his family.

Judge Bernadette Owens said he had given him an opportunity and he could not be “dragging it out endlessly”.

Adjourning the case to January 16 next, she said “the money has to be paid”.
