Longford mourns lovely kind lady who died shortly after her 96th birthday

Late Maureen Devine of 1 Marian Avenue, Edgeworthstown

The death of a popular Longford woman has occurred shortly after her 96th birthday.

Maureen Devine of 1 Marian Avenue, Edgeworthstown, Longford died in the loving care of her daughter May Lyons, sons Michael, Vivian and Gerard and the kind staff of Our lady's Manor, Edgeworthstown on Saturday, November 18th.

She was predeceased by her husband Tony, her sons Harry and Anthony, and infant twins John Anthony and Patrick Joseph, as well as her brothers John and Bill Murphy, sisters Kathleen Sexton, Rita Kilbride, Nancy Mallon and Evelyn Reilly.

Maureen had just celebrated her 96th birthday on October 27 last.

'Aunty Maureen' was a lovely kind lady who always had a real warm welcome for everyone who called to visit her and no one ever left her home without having a cup of tea and some of her home baking.

Up until recently Maureen was able to go out for a walk, and with her son Vivian she loved bringing her little dog out the Bracklin Road where she would meet and chat to her neighbours and friends.

Maureen had a great faith and this she has passed on to her family and indeed to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Maureen had a great interest in her extended family and always asked about her grand nephews and nieces and had a great memory for names.

Reading and keeping in touch with the local and national political events was a great past time for her, and while she had an allegiance to one party she also respected others opinions and loved to debate the issues of the day.

Maureen's remains reposed in Our lady's Manor in Edgeworthstown on Monday evening last, November 20 and big crowds came to say a fond farewell to a much loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt, and her immediate family greatly appreciate the support they have received since her passing.

On Tuesday at noon her funeral mass was celebrated in St Mary's church in Edgeworthstown and she was laid to rest in Aughafin cemetery beside her beloved husband Tony.

We extend sincere sympathy to her loving daughter May, sons Michael, Vivian and Gerard, son in law Andy Lyons, daughters in law Marie Jodie and Margaret and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Rest in peace Aunt Maureen.
