Longford graduate achieves very notable double first 

A Longford graduate achieved a very notable double first recently.

Mary Smyth, daughter of Martin Smyth and Ann Gerety Smyth, Ardagh, Co Longford, became Dr Mary Smyth at the TUS Graduation Ceremony on November 2.

She is the first person to graduate with a PhD from the Digital Arts & Media Department of Limerick School of Art & Design and the first person to graduate with a PhD from the TUS Clonmel Campus. 

Mary was awarded her PhD in Philosophy with her research on 'Animating Addiction: a practice-based study of addiction and recovery'. 

Mary worked with people in addiction recovery from the Aiseiri Treatment Service. As part of her PhD, she created two films that capture and explore the recovery experience.

Mary received her primary education at Gaelscoil Longfoirt and progressed to secondary school at Meán Scoil Mhuire, Longford. She completed her degree in Design, Animation and Motion Design in Limerick School of Art and Design in 2017 and her doctorate recently.
