Longford Chamber and Local Enterprise Office Longford have teamed up to give shoppers the chance to win great prizes from Longford town’s top retail outlets.

Starting this week, their five #ShopLongford elves have begun visiting shops across the town – with five shops participating each week.

To be in with a chance to win, shoppers just have to find the elves in the shops, snap a photo and post it to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #ElfinLongford, and tag the shop they found the elf in.

At the end of each week, the participating shops will choose a winner who will receive a €50 voucher, just in time for Christmas shopping season.

The #ElfinLongford is a pilot initiative being undertaken as part of the wider #ShopLongford campaign, which aims to drive footfall and encourage shoppers to look for local during the festive season.

Michael Nevin, Head of Enterprise at LEO Longford says: "Shopping local has several benefits – by choosing local shops this Christmas, you’re protecting and providing local jobs, and keeping your local town or village vibrant. You don’t have to look online to find fantastic deals this Black Friday – as the majority of our local businesses have embraced this major shopping holiday.  These local businesses are the lifeblood of our communities and deserve our support, not only at Christmas time, but all year round."

LEO Longford has established a directory of local businesses, broken down into easy-to-browse categories, to help shoppers find what they’re looking for. The directory can be found at localenterprise.ie/Longford.

To get involved in the #ElfinLongford competition, follow Longford Chamber and Local Enterprise Office Longford on social media, where you’ll see weekly updates on the elves’ whereabouts!
