This week we sadly record the death of one of Kenagh's best known personalities.

Jimmy Finn of 19 Derryhaun village passed to his eternal reward when he died in his sleep on Thursday, November 2 in his eighty-ninth year.

Jimmy grew up and went to national school and lived his teenage years in Kenagh village.

He was one of seven children who were reared in the village during the war years where their father Paddy plied his trade as a tailor.

From his early years Jimmy was best known as a very witty funny character. He could tell stories and yarns ad lib yet very inoffensive.

During his teenage years he began to work for Bord na Mona where he served his entire working life until he retired at full term.

He was a hard working man and a dedicated father to his family of nine children, a chore equally shared by his wife of over sixty five years Betty (nee Clyne).

Down through his working years on Bord na Mona Jimmy built up a reputation as a very jovial personality where he continued his gift as a storyteller and raconteur. The story has been told of how Jimmy could hold his workmates spellbound with laughter during tea breaks or wet days.

Affectionately known as the Lever, Jimmy was also fond of the odd game of cards and a flutter on the horses but down through his long married life his family always came first.

Jimmy is predeceased by his six brothers and sisters also by his son David.

We offer our sincere sympathy to his wife Betty, his children Mary, Paddy, PJ, Seamus, Esther, Lizzie, Carmel and Valerie, his grandchildren David, Kevin, Doireann, Shauna, Patrick, Molly and Amy and great grandson Lachlann,  sons in law, daughters in law and a large circle of relatives and friends.

Also the neighbours of Derryhaun and former schoolmates of Kenagh. His funeral mass took place in Newtowncashel church followed by burial in Kilcommock cemetery on Sunday morning November 5.
