The Mizen to Malin cycle, organised by a group of Longford-based volunteers has raised over €67,000 for Cian’s Kennels.
The Longford based charity brings pets closer to sick children and their families at CHI Crumlin (formerly Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children at Crumlin).
The team of volunteers cycled for six days in September from Mizen Head in Cork, to Malin Head in Donegal.
Director of Fundraising at Cian’s Kennels Declan Kenny said: “We really appreciate the support we received from everyone who donated to our cycle. Not just from Longford people, who we know are very generous, but from people all over the country and beyond.”
“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of some supporters; the funds raised will be put to good use helping bring pets closer to sick children and their families as well as helping us to build our facility at the new Children's Hospital. We are already planning for our 2024 cycle, so keep an eye out for details in the new year!’
DEDICATIONS
The fundraising cycle remembered a number of special people.
Day one, from Mizen Head to Killarney, was dedicated to the memory of Cliodhna Barret Murphy from Cork, who lost her brave battle with Ewing’s sarcoma at the tender age of 16.
Day two, from Killarney to Limerick was dedicated to well-loved Longford man Donal Considine, who passed away suddenly in 2019.

Adapting a novel that has been primarily written in dialogue should not be too difficult a task, but when it has already had a second life in celluloid the chore gets a bit tougher.
Day three, from Limerick to Athlone was dedicated to the memory of James Magan, Killashee – who died at just 16 years old, four years after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
Day four, Athlone to Sligo via Longford, was dedicated to Leah Sheridan, Ardagh/Newtownforbes. Leah is the daughter of cycle sponsor Derek Sheridan of Sherpack Limited.
Day five, from Sligo to Letterkenny, was dedicated to the memory of proud Longford woman and doting mother-of-two, Dearbhla Cox (nee Considine), who lost her brave battle with cancer in 2018.
Day six, from Letterkenny to Malin Head was dedicated to Cian Neary, Killashee who died in 2019. Cian’s legacy is the wonderful charity Cian’s Kennels, established by his heartbroken parents in a bid to bring a little happiness and comfort to sick children and their families.
The organisers of the event would like to extend their sincere gratitude to their sponsors and everyone who supported the event.
The money raised will go a long way towards expanding the services provided by Cian’s Kennels to sick kids and their families all across Ireland.
