The Padraic Colum Gathering, honouring one of Longford's great writers, took place on Saturday, October 7.  The morning session, in Granard Community Library saw Prof Christopher Morash of Trinity College Dublin speak about ‘Padraic Colum: a life in the theatre’, and Dr Patrick Ryan gave a lecture entitled ‘Padraic Colum: a new and old storyteller’. Colmcille Community Centre was the venue for the afternoon session where local historian Benny Reid spoke about the history of the area and Colum’s family background. The talk was followed by a reading of some of Colum’s poetry by Lanesboro poet Margaret Nohilly. The session ended with a performance by local schoolchildren from St Colmcille's National School.

Longford Leader / Longford Live photographer Shelley Corcoran visited Colmcille on the day and we hope you enjoy her photos. And don't forget to tag and share with your friends!
