A homeless man has appeared in court charged in connection to an alleged violent incident at an asylum seeker hostel in Longford town.
Walid Bouskia (33), of no fixed abode, came before a sitting of Longford District Court last Tuesday charged with the possession of a knife on September 18 at Richmond Court, Richmond Street, Longford.
Mr Bouskia, who is in custody, was also charged with alleged threatening and abusive behaviour, Main Street, Longford on July 15, 2023.
The accused, who sat motionless in the custody suite of the court for much of last week’s brief hearing, was also charged with the possession of a knife at Aldi, Athlone Road, Longford on May 25 this year.
On the same date, Mr Bouskia was charged with theft from the supermarket giant.
Three days earlier, Mr Bouskia allegedly entered the same store and stole three bottles of Jameson, which resulted in a further theft charge being issued against him.
The accused was further charged with the theft of Jameson whiskey, this time from Tesco in Longford town on April 21.
The court was told a report in relation to Mr Bouskia’s medical well being was not yet fully completed with Judge Bernadette Owens indicating a further remand was required in order for that report to be completed.
Defence solicitor Frank Gearty also stated his client had sustained a “severe brain trauma” in the past and was a factor the court should consider.
Judge Owens was also told directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) were still outstanding.
The case was adjourned until October 10 next with Mr Bouskia remanded in custody until such time.
